Burgeo June 10

I feel the need to clarify something- that there's only one moose crazy person in this family, and it's not me. But I stay on high alert because when I die, I don't want it to be from a moose collision with our car. And even if we don't die, still need the vehicle to get home.
Spent our first full day in Burgeo, just lazing around. Almost welcome because we've been on the go,go, go for over two weeks. First day that the rain has kept has in. But apart from taking the ferry ⛴️ to the small out port of Ramea, we really have nothing else to do here. If it had been nice weather, the plan was to sit out on the deck, and stare at the water. Instead, will veg inside except to go out to get fed.
Feel a little sorry for the BnB owner. We chatted over breakfast
and with this awful weather, he has cancellations because the drive down here is difficult enough, in non rainy weather. The owners are older people, who have lived in other places, but have run this BnB for 22 years and would soon like to retire and move somewhere, where the variety of fresh food, and cultural activity is more widely available (she is originally from Marseilles). And where they don't have to chop wood to keep their home warm. They do use electric heating but it is frightfully expensive. I would have thought that hydro power would be cheap and plentiful. But they lost out on a poor deal with Quebec over Churchill Falls, and are just now completing another hydro project that has billions in cost over runs because of lack of proper oversight (government incompetency is rampant). But they fear that moving to the mainland,  or even to the more populated areas of Nfld, will be out of reach for them, because, just like at home, prices have been sky rocketing. There has been a lot of big money made, over the years, by Newfies going abroad or the mainland, and they came home, and built grand new houses, driving up prices like everywhere else .
Anyways, the rain calmed down by lunchtime, and was able to snap a couple of pics of the property.
And directly across the street, are a few stairs, to take you to the top of a hill. Maybe,  I'll tackle tomorrow.
And a couple more pics, in the neighborhood:
By mid afternoon, the rain had stopped, but I was feeling too cozy to move.
Now, there are 3 restaurants in Burgeo and we'd already been to 2 of them. Was looking forward to going to the 'fancy' one tonight, but they're still closed because of staffing issues (EVEN HERE!). We had already picked up a sandwich, at the grocery store, to take on the ferry. There are restaurants in Ramea, but we're only going to be there a short time and don't want to waste it sitting in a restaurant. So back to PBJ again, because the other 2 restaurants are not super.. bad enough that we'll probably  end up having supper at one of them again, tomorrow. On a positive note, I get to use up my bread.
Wish us a good weather day for tomorrow! Won't be able to spot any whales if it stays misty like today.
