Last day in St. Anthony June 7
The intention was to take the 25 minute drive back to L'Anse aux Meadows for my 2.2 km walk but somehow, we always get distracted and we arrived at the park closer to 3pm.
First, we stopped at a museum dedicated to a Dr. Grenfell, amongst the most important of Newfie personages. He is responsible for many good things to make peoples' lives better. Originally from England, and arriving in Labrador in the 1890s. He brought not only health care, but also industry so that people could more easily earn a living. He was a force of nature, very artistic and wrote many books. We also toured his home, located behind St. Anthony's present day hospital.
Here are some photos from the museum https://photos.app.goo.gl/mMLNGDhTZhXmUGuUA
He hob nobbed with many rich and famous people and there is a tribute to him on a stain glassed window of the Washington D.C. cathedral.
i know that I already made mention of the garden plots, but today, we were on a stretch of road where there were many, many of them. You have to keep in mind, there are no houses around. ATVs are prevalent here, and used alot, to get around. No surprise, the price of gas hit 2.29 today. I couldn't get a picture, but I did see a roads repairman, with the smallest backhoe ever, digging up the side of the road, and making a pile of dirt. I can't imagine that it would actually be that expensive to buy earth for a garden, but this is how they do it.

And then yet, some more on the way to lunch.
We shared a pizza
but when it came to dessert, Michael wouldn't share, so we EACH had a piece of carrot Partridgeberry cake (SO good) and for good measure, I added a scoop of homemade icecream.
Easy enough to tell the locals apart from the tourists. The locals were out and about today in shorts and ss t-shirts. We're still wearing layers and toques. But I also saw daffodils, so spring must finally be arriving here.
And yes, we saw some of the same people again, that we had seen on other days.
Tonight, we went to a sod covered restaurant for a Viking feast.
Nothing sophisticated here, but food was good (even though it included cod tongues)
and we all laughed a lot .

I had been concerned about driving back to the hotel in the dark, but it was still light out at 9:15.
So we were able to see one moose, and then further up the road, ANOTHER moose. Can you tell them apart?
Before going to bed last night, I went out side to check out the stars. Didn't get too far before I heard unfamiliar animal noises. Promptly went back in.
Tomorrow, is just a driving day. We're headed towards Burgeo, on the southern shore, but it's too long a drive for one day, so sleeping over in Deer lake just for tonight. The drive is around 200 miles.
We've been away over 2 weeks, and for those of you keeping score, we haven't killed each other.....yet.
