Last Day in St. John's June 29

Gottze dankl The weather forecasters here aren't able to predict the weather any better than our guys at home . NO RAIN. At all..           (this is at 9pm tonight)
Our first visit was at the Newman Wine Vaults.https://www.heritage.nf.ca/articles/society/newman-wine-vaults.php.
Interesting because one of the oldest remaining buildings in St. John's , has some history to it, and best of all, they give you a nice sampling of Port at the end of the tour. Not a horrible way to start the day.

Next stop was the Johnson Geo Center, at the base of Signal Hill.
There is a multimedia film and exhibits, all underground with the walls of The Rock, all around you, all to do with the geology of Newfoundland, and because a lot of space experiments are first tested out in Labrador, info and relics on space exploration.

Today, we really stayed close to the hotel. Hardly wandered far away all.
After lunch, at what felt like a throw back to the age of the hippies,
went to a huge museum, called The Rooms. We were there for hours!
Inside, is a gallery of Canadian art & a museum dedicated to natural & cultural history. There is an entire wing dedicated to the contribution of Newfoundlers during the first world war. There is actually too much to describe. I'm just so glad we didn't miss this place. This bell comes from the grounded ship we had seen in Harbour Grace.(a lobster claw bigger than Michael's hand)

Almost kitty corner to the museum, is the Basilica Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, opened in 1855, so had to pop in.
Which left us just a little bit of time for a little more walking around before supper. More jelly bean housesbut also, some new condos.and I cracked and bought some candy at the Freak Store. But I didn't have any until after dinner, at The Duke of Duckworth. We shared a table with yet another couple who arrived just before the pandemic, but this time from Ottawa, who are about to move into a house here. Spent a couple of hours with them . Lovely evening. And that's it, that's all from St. John's. We pack up, say our goodbyes to Newfoundland, and get on the overnight ferry tomorrow, back to Nova Scotia.
