Port aux Basques

Well, the forecast was poor, but so far, the rain has held off. The wind, is another story..... really blows. 26- 28 miles an hour (about 45km).
(our BnB)
We took a drive into what they call"downtown".
There is a Shopper's Drugmart and a Canada Post. Maybe a restaurant. Went in the other direction, and drum roll here please ...….we went into a mall. My very first mall since the pandemic began. Had to go because they had a Riff's store (the chain that I used to work for), and no surprise, it's still a dump.
We took a drive to a recommended restaurant for lunch and  I told Michael, that what we're seeing now, is what we'll be seeing for the next month, which is, NOT much.
Actually, it took me a little while to realize, but the landscape reminds me of the Falkland Islands.... windswept, rocky and desolate.  They're only missing the sheep.
But we did stop a couple of times on the road, off the shoulder, to take pictures and a car driving by, stopped to see whether we needed assistance. I guess that they couldn't fathom any other reason for us to stop.
We were able to see this morning's ferry sail away - they leave every day at 11:45 am and 11:45 pm (and close enough to hear the horn blow last night).
Having properly waited at least two hours since breakfast, we arrived and went into the restaurant, only to be told that that they'd be opening late, in another couple of hours, because they were "doing freight". Of course, now I REALLY want to go to this restaurant, and we'll go back later. In the meantime, we picked up a frozen pizza for lunch at the grocery store.
We have the complete house to ourselves today. It's funny because the person sitting next to me on the ferry yesterday, is a newfie but currently living in Rosemount, Montreal. And the couple that were staying here last night, actually live in Dartmouth, but he grew up in Rosemount. And he just emailed me a picture of moose, that he saw today, on their way to Deer Lake. Michael was almost in tears when he saw it because we spent a good part of the day on moose patrol and saw bubkes (that means NADA, which means ZILCH).
When we left Nova Scotia, the price of gas was 2.04.   The price here is a hefty 2.23. YIKES! Of course, I would pick THIS year to go on a road trip. We just hit 2500 km (1500 mi) today.
Anyways, we went back to the restaurant, it was ok, but not spectacular, and maybe I've just been eating out too much.
Tomorrow, we're back on the road. Long drive ahead.
