Last Day in Percé July 18
When driving here the other day, we saw a handful of great blue herons near a beach. I found that amazing because I've never seen more than 2 herons at a time, anywhere. Last night, an owl (or some very strange person) kept me awake with endless hoo, h'Hoo, hooing.
Today, we spent the day on Ile Bonaventure, preceded by an hour's boat ride that showcased Percé Rock.
There used to be another arch but it collapsed in 1845.

And then we saw thousands of birds (mainly gannets) on the island.https://photos.app.goo.gl/LQZeSZ9jf2wBud6b9

At one time, the island was home to a very large fishing community, which with time, dwindled and the government expropriated the remaining homes in 1971 and the remaining villagers moved out.
We got off the boat at the island, and then took the shortest route to the Gannet bird nesting area. 2.4km each way. Cue the whining and complaining. At least, it was overcast and we didn't have the sun beating down on us (until we made the return trip. You have to love Google Maps because they have EVERYTHING mapped out. Used it here to tell Michael that we had covered more than half the trail. The trail was pretty and followed a red dirt path (just like P.E.I.!) but near the end, it resembled Newfoundland, when we came to an area of dead trees (must have been some wind!).
And then you turn a corner, and you hear the racket the birds are making.https://photos.app.goo.gl/XAfQ6HGrVT1BnkhS6. (lots of chicks in above pic)
Hey, I didn't do too badly with my cell phone!
There was one more attraction that I thought about going to, but in the end, we took a pass...... there is a lookout on top of a mountain, with a glass floor platform. We did it in the Grand Canyon and found that it didn't add anything to the experience.
