April 21 Kochi

One of the many things I forgot to include in yesterday's blog, was something I consider really amazing, at the subway. While we were waiting for the train, there were two official workmen also waiting for the train, where the first car would stop holding small wooden planks. And when the train stopped, they dropped the planks down to make a ramp, and off rolled a wheel chair, with their help. No fuss, no muss, no waiting..

Today, we took the free shuttle for the 20 minute ride to Kochi. We could have sweltered but for at least 2 km, maybe more, the shopping areas were  covered .
Had lunch at an Indian restaurant, in a food hall. That's exactly what we went to Japan for....Indian food.(Bonito fish, traditional kochi fish, being seared)
After that, we were just minutes away from Kochi castle.  We did NOT do the climb up to the castle. Just peered at it from below.  And once again, we ignored the presence of another museum of history.
We also spent a little time finding a little red bridge, simply because it's a symbol of the city.
Kochi seems to be surrounded by mountains. We drove through a few tunnels to get there in.(on the bus, but he wasn't our driver)

Back at the ranch, I mean ship.... We actually did nothing for a couple of hours and almost fell asleep on the deck.
This morning, the ship was greeted by a flag waving welcoming committee.
They also entertained in front of the ship, before we departed.

Tomorrow, we arrive at an island that we have not visited before, Kyushu, just south of the big island of Hokkaido, where Tokyo is situated. We don't have any excursions planned but there is another free shuttle to the city of Kagashima, about 40 minutes away. Hopefully, I'll be on the shuttle. Michael is planning to stay put. Not that he'd want to go anyways but he could use the opportunity to put his feet up...ankles very swollen .
